On March 27, 2026, the artificial intelligence and autonomous systems communities gathered at the University of New Mexico’s Centennial Engineering Center for the RAISE Field Day. Focused on advancing “Responsive and Resilient AI for Autonomous Systems Engineering,” the day-long event brought together a dynamic mix of experts from academia, national laboratories, and private industry. Band Gap is proud to have been part of the conversation.

Band Gap CEO and Principal Applied Scientist, Dr. Jay Jay Billings, joined colleagues from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to discuss the critical challenges and frontier applications of building AI systems that are not only capable but fundamentally reliable and safe when deployed in autonomous environments.

Reflecting on the event, Dr. Billings shared:

“It was a pleasure to speak to faculty, students, and other colleagues at RAISE’s field day. Seeing a university community so focused on responsibly using AI in autonomous systems in a state as socially diverse and ecologically unique as New Mexico is inspiring. I’m deeply grateful for the chance to participate.”

Events like the RAISE Field Day underscore exactly why Band Gap is so passionate about the future of this technology. Building AI for good requires continuous dialogue between industry builders, academic researchers, and the communities our technologies will impact.
